1st Online Photography Exhibition Information

The Connecticut Academy of Fine arts (CAFA) is pleased to announce our first on-line show which is devoted to photography. After over 100 years of physical shows displaying a wide range of fine art we are starting a new venture that will make use of the power of the internet as a platform for an ongoing series of online shows. These on-line shows will complement our annual physical show which will continue to be the center piece and joy of our mission to the artistic community. As always CAFA will uphold high standards in all of its endeavors.

**Please read all instructions carefully.**

About the Exhibition:

  • The online photography exhibition, established with the purpose of promoting merit in photographic artistic talent while creating a platform for recognition and marketing for artistic photographers everywhere, is presented by CAFA as its first on-line project to expand our artistic tradition and influence. By creating a presence on the Internet, we are stretching our reach to artists everywhere as we continue to execute our organization's mission:
  • Encourage artistic achievement and excellence in the arts.
  • Recognize a diversity of style & medium.
  • Provide a forum to advance the efforts of accomplished artists.

    Submission Information

    Eligibility:

  • Open to all artists.
  • Also open to international artists.
  • One or two works may be submitted.
  • All fine art photography will be accepted.
  • Work must not have been previously shown with the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts.
  • Images:

  • Image format for submission must be a jpeg (must include file extension .jpg).
  • File size should not exceed 2 megabytes per each entry. Low-resolution images (72ppi) should be a minimum of 850 pixels.
  • File name should be as follows: lastname.firstinitial1, lastname.firstinitial2 respectively.
  • Juror's Criteria:

  • The juror will assess the artwork based on overall artistic merit which conceptual composition, mastery in technique, and overall design.
  • Exhibition Agreement:

  • CAFA assumes the right to use all images for publicity purposes on our website and beyond. All works must be priced accordingly or marked N.F.S. Sales will not be processed by CAFA. All interested parties will be guided to purchase the art directly from the artist. No commissions will be taken by CAFA for the sales that arise through this exhibition.

    Entry Fee:

  • Non-members: $20 to submit 1 or 2 photographs.
  • Members: $15 to submit 1 or 2 photographs.
  • Payment can be made by debit or credit card via Paypal. You do NOT need a paypal account.

    Exhibition Highlights

  • Exhibition will be featured on CAFA website from January until June 2015.
  • Award winners will be announced on our website and via email on the day exhibition opens. Additionally, artists will also be announced in our yearly January newsletter.
  • All accepted artists will be eligible for an Associate Membership.
  • All artists selected will receive a CAFA exhibition certificate via mail.
  • Artists selected will also be featured in event announcements, and social media promotion.
  • Artists featured in the exhibition will have their websites (if available) linked from the CAFA page.
  • Exhibition winner will also be awarded free entry into our 104th Annual Exhibition, 2015.

Juror of Selection and Awards

  • Michael Yurgeles:
    Yurgeles studied photography at the University of New Hampshire and at the Rhode Island School of Design. He has a background in art education having taught visual art programs and also functioning as Art Department Chair in various schools in CT, RI, and New Hampshire. Currently, Yurgeles teaches photography at Northwestern Connecticut Community College and he leads Artwell Gallery, in Torrington, as the Executive Director.
