We are now accepting entries for the 102nd Annual Exhibition.



Exhibition Dates: March 29 - May 4, 2013
Opening reception and presentation of awards:
  Thursday, April 11, from 6 to 8 PM.

Location: The Mystic Arts Center
9 Water Street, Mystic, Connecticut 06355
Open 11:00 - 5:00 daily & weekends

Open to all artists.
One or two works may be submitted. All fine arts media:
painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, graphics, mixed
media and collage.

Work must not have been previously shown at the
Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts or the Mystic Arts Center.

Mystic Arts Center is allowing 1/2 hour free parking for drop off and pick up.

Pick up for work not accepted from carry in entries:
  Friday March 29 and Saturday March 30
  11AM–5PM at the Mystic Arts Center.

End of Show pick up for work accepted:
  Sunday May 5 and Monday May 6,
   11AM–5PM at the Mystic Arts Center.

Opening reception and presentation of awards:
  Thursday, April 11, from 6 to 8 PM.

For artists out of the area a shipper will be available to receive and return artwork.

Julia Pavone is an Artist, Curator/Director and Educator. She teaches art history and studio art at the University of Connecticut.
Her work as an artist suggests concept as sensation. Julia weaves her message with expressive gesture and iconic references of memory.

Steve Wilda

Artist web site

Steve Wilda is recognized in the art community as a master with graphite. When working in this medium, Steve draws his subjects with a silent testimony of memory and time.
He also paints in color with an intense focus that goes beyond representational and implies a clarity that can only exist on that canvas.

Eligible Work:

Open to all artists. One or two works may be submitted. All fine arts media: painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, graphics.
• Work must not have been previously shown with CAFA or the Mystic Arts Center.
• Hung work: Outside frame dimensions cannot exceed 72” in either direction.
Hung work must be appropriately prepared for hanging by having screw eyes and wire attached and not exceed 35lbs.
Fixed hanging hardware without wire cannot be accepted.
• Sculptors are requested to supply their own well-balanced bases and/or pedestals (a limited number of white pedestals are available for use at the gallery).
Standing and hung sculpture weight limit is 35lbs. If the base or pedestal is separated or removable from the sculpture, the base or pedestal weight limit is 25lbs.
If the base or pedestal is permanently attached to the sculpture, the weight limit for the integrated work is 35lbs. The sculpture and base
or pedestal together is limited to 78” in height and 32” in width. Wall hung sculpture may not extend over 18” from the wall.
No sculpture shall have protruding surfaces capable of inflicting physical injury. We request sculptors to weigh their work including the base or pedestal and list the weight on the entry form. All work is required to be able to be moved.
• Award winning artwork and artists will be honored on the CAFA web site, in the exhibition catalog, and in the news media.
• CAFA and/or MAC reserve the right to refuse acceptance of any work deemed inappropriate to the exhibit. Work so deemed will not be judged.

Commission and Policy:

Note: A commission of 40% will be retained on all sales.
All works must be priced accordingly or marked not for sale (NFS)
Works not picked up on time may be subject to a storage fee of $10.00.
Unclaimed work will be disposed of at the discretion of the Mystic Arts Center.
The Academy and the Mystic Arts Center assume the right to photograph any work for catalogue or publicity purposes.


Every precaution will be taken to protect entries, and due care will be exercised in handling all work submitted, but neither the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, its volunteers, agents, officers and council members, nor the Mystic Arts Center, its officers, directors, employees, volunteers and agents will be responsible for loss, or damage to any work from any cause whatsoever, or the theft of any work submitted, on display or in storage.
The submitting artist agrees to insure or self-insure any work submitted, and to hold the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts and the Mystic Arts Center harmless from any damage resulting from the use of the premises, or any loss of or to submitted work or the personal property of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, members, guests or others. The submission of works to the exhibition constitutes an agreement on the part of the artist or artist’s agent to these conditions.
